Word wars or sprints as they are often referred to as well are when a group of writers get together either in a chatroom or on a forum and the following takes place:
1. When to start: Usually, since time zones differ, the person running that particular sprint will make a post thus:
Hey, guys! If anyone's interested in a 15-minute sprint at 30, reply here!
We recommend you post at least a half hour before the sprint takes place so people have time to find your thread and join.
2. You write for the alotted time and try to pound out as many words as you can, typos, plot holes and more.
3. Reply to the thread (or in the chatroom) with your warring word count when the leader calls time. If you're playing on the boards, we recommend you either bookmark the thread or keep it open so you know when time has been called. Another suggestion is this. Get a timer or use a watch or something with an alarm. Hell, many cellphones have alarms now.
Simple? You know it! Wars are saviors for a reluctant muse and an agitated writer. You won't be sorry you joined one.
Good luck! Make that word count soar!
